About Us

Peter J. McGuire, co-founder of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, signed the Charter for Local 54 on January 22nd 1887. Carpenters Local 54 is the oldest local in Chicago and one of the oldest throughout the UBC. Local 54 is comprised of a very diverse group of hardworking men and women who perform all scopes of carpentry work.

From Heavy Highway: Infrastructure including Roads, Bridges, Airports, Rail, Water Reclamation and Pump Stations to Residential homes, Interior Systems: including Framing, Drywall, Doors/Hardware, Acoustical Ceiling and Trim to Overhead Garage Doors, Piledriving, Diving and everything in between.

Being a Union Carpenter holds a strong position socially throughout the communities in which we work. We continue to be active politically and give back to the communities we work in through volunteer projects for those truly in need. We strive to create an environment for all hardworking men and women to grow and prosper throughout their careers. Carpenters Local 54 is dedicated to continuing our strong legacy as industry and community leaders.
